Terms of Use

Last updated: 17 October 2026

These terms apply to the Health Switch RSA app for iPhone and Android (the “App”), published by Brynne Prince. By using the App you agree to them.

Please read these points first. They limit what we are responsible for, and the Consumer Protection Act asks us to show them to you plainly:

Who we are

The App is supplied by Brynne Prince, an individual (sole proprietor) in South Africa. We are not a company and have no registration number.

We do not belong to any self-regulatory body and do not subscribe to an alternative dispute resolution scheme or code of conduct.

What the App is

The App is a shared directory of South African hospital telephone numbers and speed dials, kept up to date by the clinicians who use it. Reading the directory is free and always will be.

Who may use it

The App is made for people working in South African healthcare and is offered in South Africa only. If you are under 18, you may use it only with a parent’s or guardian’s consent, and may not buy Pro without it.

What the App is not

The App is not a medical device and gives no medical, clinical or treatment advice. It does not verify who is on the other end of a number. Numbers are contributed by users and may be wrong, out of date, or changed by a hospital without notice. We fix numbers when they are reported, but we do not check every number before it appears.

In an emergency, use your hospital’s own switchboard or emergency procedures, not this App. Whenever a call matters to a patient, confirm who you are speaking to before you act on it. Clinical decisions, and the duty to escalate through your hospital’s own channels, stay yours.

No patient information

The App is a phone directory. It never asks for patient information and must not hold any. Do not type patient names, folder numbers, diagnoses or other health information into a number, a hospital, a report, an idea or the Send private feedback screen. We delete any we find.

Contributing

Anyone may add, correct or report a number. When you contribute you agree that:

Your licence to use the App

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the App on devices you own or control, under these terms and the store’s own rules. You may not copy the directory in bulk, resell it, or try to break or overload the App or its server.

Health Switch Pro

Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription, sold through Apple on iPhone and through Google Play on Android. It removes the sponsored bar and unlocks dark mode and favourites. The directory, offline use and contributing stay free whether or not you buy it.

Plans. Pro Monthly renews every month. Pro Yearly renews every year. The current prices in South Africa are R29.99 a month and R299.99 a year. The App shows the exact price, in rand and including any VAT the store charges, before you confirm. There is no free trial.

Payment. Apple takes payment from your Apple Account, or Google from your Google account, when you confirm the purchase. We never see your card or payment details. Apple and Google run the payment system and keep it secure.

Renewal. The subscription renews automatically, at the same length and price, unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the next period within the 24 hours before the current one ends. If a price goes up, the store tells you first and, where its rules or the law require it, asks you to agree.

Cancelling. Manage or cancel at any time:

When you cancel, Pro stays on until the end of the period you have paid for, then stops. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.

Restoring. On a new phone or after a reinstall, tap Restore purchases in the App’s Settings, signed in to the same Apple Account or Google account.

Refunds. Apple and Google take the payment, so they handle refunds under their own terms:

If a store refuses a refund you think the law gives you, email us.

Your record of the purchase. Apple and Google email a receipt and keep your purchase history in your account, where you can see and save it at any time.

Cooling-off. The Electronic Communications and Transactions Act gives a 7-day cooling-off period for some online purchases. It does not apply to a service that starts, with your consent, before the 7 days end, and Pro starts as soon as you buy it. Nothing in these terms takes away any right you have under that Act or the Consumer Protection Act, including any right to cancel a yearly plan early.

Apple and Google

These terms are between you and Brynne Prince, not Apple or Google. We, not Apple or Google, are responsible for the App, its content, its support and any claim about it, including a claim that it breaks the law or someone else’s rights.

On iPhone, Apple’s Standard End User Licence Agreement also applies: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. Apple has no duty to support the App. If the App fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, you may tell Apple, and Apple may refund the price you paid; Apple has no other warranty duty for it. Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms against you as third-party beneficiaries. You confirm that you are not in a country under a US embargo and are not on a US list of prohibited or restricted people.

On Android, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply: https://play.google.com/about/play-terms/

Advertising

Phones without Pro see one sponsored bar served by Google AdMob. We do not choose the advertisers and do not endorse them. How ads use your data, and how to turn off personalised ads, is in the Privacy Policy.

Privacy

The Privacy Policy says what the App collects, why, where it goes and how to ask us to delete it.

Availability

We may change, suspend or withdraw the App or any part of it at any time. We will try to keep the directory available but do not promise uninterrupted service.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the App and the directory are provided “as is”. We are not liable for any loss, injury, delay in patient care or other harm that comes from using the App, or from relying on a number in it that is wrong, missing or out of date. This applies to you and to anyone you act for, including your employer.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for loss caused by our gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or any liability that the law, including the Consumer Protection Act, does not let us limit.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the App changes or as the law requires. The date at the top always shows the latest version, and material changes will be announced in the App’s release notes. Using the App after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Complaints and governing law

Please email us first with any complaint. You may also complain to the National Consumer Commission (https://thencc.org.za). These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
